Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a shock £2million swoop to sign West Ham United striker Andy Carroll – as reported by The Sun.
Spurs are currently in the throes of an injury crisis, leaving Fernando Llorente as the club’s only fully fit senior centre-forward.
With Harry Kane out, Llorente started against Fulham on Sunday and scored an own goal in the 2-1 victory, while also missing a gilt-edged chance at the other end.
Dele Alli was injured towards the end of the game with a hamstring injury, as reported by BBC Sport, while Son Heung-Min is currently on international duty with South Korea at the Asian Cup.
The Sun claim that Spurs have turned their attentions to Carroll as they look to bolster their forward line. The deal will rest on whether Manuel Pellegrini feels that he needs the 30-year-old as back-up to Marko Arnautovic.
However, Carroll has struggled immensely for fitness in recent seasons and has scored just once this term, in the FA Cup win over Birmingham City.
Many Tottenham fans have therefore reacted to the news with genuine dismay, urging the club to steer as far away from the injury-prone forward as possible.
